Hello, world! Welcome to the updates of a highly religious man who- surprise!- isn't part of the crazed Bush agenda to take over the whole damn world. I actually bothered to read the Bible, the whole thing (and the New Testament twice), and as far as I recall, there was nothing in there about taking civil right's or bombing the shit out of someone else's country for what amounts to, in scientific terms, shits and giggles.
(Actually, there was a lot in there- and a lot of it was about leaving people the hell alone. Live your own damn moral lives, you bastards!)
I am also a person highly intolerant of stupidity of all kinds, which makes me something of a rarity in America these days. Too many people are too damn stupid, in too many ways. I am open-minded and tolerant. One of my best friends is a lesbian. My favorite teacher is an atheist. I believe in the will of everyone to leave everyone else alone, live their own lives, and respect- not tolerate, but respect-the decisions of others. What happened to that time when a man could admire a Buddhist for his patience in meditation while at the same time receiving respect for himself?
You know, I'm actually going to change what I said up there. I'm not a tolerant person. A tolerant person only puts up with something. I've moved beyond that.
I am a respectful person. And by God, I intend to live that way.
So! For all you folks who might- or might not!- end up reading this blog. First things first. I intend to offend no one (no one reasonable, at any rate). That's because I don't want to be offended either. Hand in hand, respect and honor for one another will carry us farther than either the "colorblind" argument (which, while an argument developed to deal with racism, can be extended to cover any differences) or the belief that somehow, someway, people will stop being people and all just get along.
I'm not expecting that. But a polite agreement to disagree would suit me just fine.
...As for politics, since this is, after all, the election, and I know full and well I need to blog on it?
...Hillary supporter. I don't think Obama could do nearly as well in office, which is focused on practical concerns and issues, as he can do while stumping, which is focused on rhetoric and sheer charisma. The guys frickin' oozes charisma, he's amazing to watch on campaign, but the new question now is whether he can be practical.
Winning an election is like selling a fantastic car.
Being president? That's like trying to fix that car.
